Lauantaina 27.3.2021 klo 17:00-19:00 Performanssin maaliskuu huipentuu virtuaalibileisiin, esiintyjät kartoittavat identiteetin moninaisuutta taiteessa kukin omasta lähtökohdastaan, pyörien tavalla tai toisella gender-käsitteen laitamilla. Amanda & Lydia on vuonna 2015 perustettu helsinkiläinen queer-performanssitaideduo, joka yhdistelee taiteessaan Voguingia, Burleskia ja Drag-taidetta. Tanssissa on keskeistä sensuelli ja pehmeä estetiikka, mutta myös feminiininen voima ja itsevarmuus. Duo on esiintynyt mm. Alman, Jenni Vartiaisen ja yhdysvaltalaisartisti Princess Nokian kanssa. Amanda ja Lydia ovat moninkertaisia katutanssien suomenmestaruusmitalisteja. 2020 heille myönnettiin Taideyliopiston ylioppilaskunnan Akateemisen kaunotaiteen palkinto osana Gorgeous House of Gucci Finland -kollektiivia.  image: Vili von Nissinen – Hyeena Hyeena on Vili von Nissisen teossarja luonnon, yhteiskunnan, sukupuolen ja seksuaalisuuden vankkumattomien järjestelmien horjuttamisesta ja hämmentämisestä, julistus ei-binäärisestä sukupuolesta ja seksuaalisuudesta. Näemme osan performanssisarjasta. Hyeenan halu sallii enemmän fantasioita, enemmän vapaatiloja ja määrittelemättömiä nautintoja, joissa voi uskaltaa enemmän. Kansainvälisesti esiintyvä Jaana Pirskanen on yli 15 vuoden ajan käsitellyt töissään kauneusihanteita, sukupuolittuneita normeja sekä monimuotoista seksuaalisuutta ja sukupuolisuutta performanssin, videon, burleskin ja dragtaiteen keinoin. Burleski ja drag ovat minulle yltäkylläisyyden väyliä, joissa ei voi olla liikaa väriä, tunnetta tai kimallusta. Ne yhdistyvät mielessäni rakastamaani melodraamaan, pateettisuuteen, pursuilevuuteen, joka kuitenkin koskettaa ja liikuttaa.  image: Kikka Rytkönen Läski Marilyn – Kikka Rytkösen performanssit ovat 90-luvulta alkaen viistäneet naiseutta, sisältäneet ristiinpukeutumista, kapinoineet rajoja ja alistamista vastaan. Marilyn ei koskaan kuollut. Hän elelee Itä-Helsingissä riskissä kunnossa. Kikka Rytkönen eläytyy siihen, mitä Marilyn miettisi nyt.

External Glitter Saturday, 27 March 2021, from 17:00–19:00 The month of performance art at MUU culminates in a virtual online party. The performers will explore the diversity of identity in art, each from their own perspective, each testing the edges of the concept of gender. Amanda & Lydia are a Helsinki-based queer performance duo, founded in 2015, who blend voguing, burlesque and drag in their performances. Full of sensuality and soft aesthetics, their dance art nevertheless abounds with feminine strength and self-assurance. Register to the event HERE. The duo have performed with numerous other artists, including Alma, Jenni Vartiainen and Princess Nokia. Amanda & Lydia have placed in medal positions in several Finnish street dance championship competitions. As members of the Gorgeous House of Gucci Finland collective, the duo were granted the Academic Fine Arts Award of the University of the Arts Student Union in 2020. Hyena is a body of work by Vili von Nissinen that subverts and perverts the sacrosanct systems of nature, society, gender and sexuality while celebrating the non-binary modes of the latter two. The programme will feature an excerpt from his performance series. “A hyena’s desire has room for more fantasies, freer spaces and indeterminate pleasures that allow greater daring. Hyenahood is not bound to any specific manner of experiencing desire. It is a form of primeval lust. A hyena’s desire is changeable and mutable. It is unknowable, inscrutable and incomprehensible. It can only become deeper. Different forms of desire and longing can coexist in a hyena, without ever opposing each other.” Theodora Rex aka Jaana Pirskanen fuses burlesque, drag and performance art into a grotesque and velvety seductiveness. For more than 15 years, she has performed internationally, exploring beauty ideals, gendered norms and the diversity of sexuality and gender in works that merge qualities from performance, dance, burlesque and drag art. “Burlesque and drag are channels of exuberance for me, they can never contain too much colour, feeling or glitter. In my mind, they merge with things I love: melodrama, bathos and an opulence that is nevertheless touching and moving. The danger of being ridiculous is liberating for me. The combination of excess and subtlety is satisfying. I work in a kind of multicoloured zone where someone coming from any of those genres might say I don’t belong to that genre, yet I can just as well incorporate features from those genres into my performances. My formal art education is in dance.” Fat Marilyn – Since the 1990s, Kikka Rytkönen has created performances that probe womanhood by revelling in cross dressing and rebelling against boundaries and oppression. Marilyn never died, she is alive and thriving in the eastern suburbs of Helsinki. Kikka Rytkönen looks at the world today as Marilyn Monroe might view it. What would she think of this masquerade?

A discussion on the sculptural possibilities of form and sound, the role of technology in our audible landscape, connectivity and accessibility, and Satz’s ongoing series of works with women composers. Co-organized with Independent Curators International (ICI). RSVP here.  The Light Between Us – Part II, Online Video Exhibition, curated by Julio César Morales, streamable March 30–May 2, 2021. The video program illuminates our commonalities and encourages reflection on our current cultural climate. With works by Allora and Calzadilla, Javier Castro, Petra Cortright, Ana Teresa Fernández, Kate Gilmore, Jennifer Locke, Anthony McCall, Ranu Mukherjee, Eamon Ore-Giron, Marco Rios, and Shahzia Sikander.
