[EN] Alexis Destoop presents new work in our n0dine project space, as an attempt to capture the elusive vitality of the forest, particularly in the aftermath of wildfires. By reassembling infrared images, he calls for strength and resistance against the destructive storms which have swept across the landscape.

[NL] Alexis Destoop presenteert nieuw werk in de projectruimte n0dine waarin hij de ongrijpbare levendigheid van het bos tracht vast te leggen, vooral in de nasleep van bosbranden. Door infraroodbeelden opnieuw samen te stellen, roept hij op tot kracht en verzet tegen de verwoestende stormen die over het landschap raasden.

[FR] Alexis Destoop présente son nouveau travail dans l’espace d’exposition n0dine. Il cherche à restituer la vitalité insaisissable et inaltérable de la forêt, dans le sillage des incendies. En recomposant des images infrarouges, il lance un appel à la force et à la résistance face aux tempêtes dévastatrices qui ont bouleversé le paysage.

[WAB] START OF A NEW CYCLE
21/03/2025 — Wandering Arts B…

[EN] After a couple years in transition, it’s time for a new WAB cycle! WAB was founded in 2014 by nadine as a ‘wandering arts’ biennial, support nomadic art practices, and work in public space. Over the years, WAB became an open platform to a growing network of artists. 

This year, we will drop the Biennial and stretch WAB in time, as a seasonal cycle. Each season, we will organise (semi-)public events and communicate through the lens of what ‘wandering arts’ means for nadine, in that specific moment. In doing so, we want to bring WAB closer to how nadine works (as an arts laboratory), while reflecting on the future of ‘wandering arts’ (as a practice).

[NL] Na enkele jaren van transitie is het tijd voor een nieuwe WAB cyclus! WAB werd in 2014 door nadine opgericht als ‘wandering arts’ biënnale, om nomadische kunstpraktijken en werk in de publieke ruimte te ondersteunen. In de loop der jaren werd WAB een open platform voor een groeiend netwerk van kunstenaars. 

Dit jaar laten we de Biënnale vallen en rekken we WAB op in de tijd. We zien het als een seizoenscyclus waarin we (semi-)publieke evenementen organiseren en communiceren door de lens van wat ‘wandering arts’ voor nadine betekent op dat moment. Op die manier brengen we WAB dichter bij onze manier van werken (als kunstenlaboratorium), en denken we na over de toekomst van ‘wandering arts’ (als praktijk).

[FR] Après quelques années de transition, il est temps d’ouvrir un nouveau cycle WAB ! La WAB a été initiée en 2014 par nadine en tant que biennale des wandering arts, pour soutenir les pratiques artistiques nomades et le travail dans l’espace public. Au fil des années, la WAB est devenue une plateforme ouverte à un réseau croissant d’artistes. 

Cette année, nous laisserons de coté le format biennale pour élargir la WAB dans le temps, sous la forme d’un cycle saisonnier. Chaque saison, nous organiserons des événements (semi-)publics et communiquerons à travers le prisme de ce que wandering arts signifie pour nadine à ce moment-là. Ce faisant, nous voulons rapprocher le WAB de la manière dont nadine fonctionne (en tant que laboratoire artistique), tout en réfléchissant au futur des wandering arts (en tant que pratique).

Marie Zolamian (°1975, Beirut, LB) lives and works in Liège. She recently won the first grant of the ‘POMONA Art Fund’ in the category mid-career artist. She has exhibited at Bombon projects gallery, Barcelona (2024); Jester/CIAP, Genk (2022); Mu.ZEE Ostend (2018); Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2013) and participated in group exhibitions at BPS22, Charleroi (2023) and Wiels, Brussels (2021). Her work is included in several private and public collections, including BPS (Charleroi, BE), MACS (Grand Hornu, BE), Mu-ZEE (Ostend, BE), M Leuven (BE), Flemish community collection, National Bank of Belgium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BE), La Boverie (Liège, BE), Space collection (Liège, BE), Province of Liège (BE), MUMC (Maastricht, NL), EF Education First (CH & GB). One of her most important works is a 76m2 mosaic for the peristyle of KMSKA Antwerp (2022), for which she received the Ianchelevici prize for architectural integration.
In her oeuvre, Western and Eastern ways of life, thoughts and histories intermingle. An iconography emerges based on repeated attempts at integration, establishing links – sometimes discordant – between man and nature, memory of the individual and the collective, between tradition, separation and upheaval, between a place, a time and a culture.
 
Witold Vandenbroeck (°1994, Leuven, BE) lives and works in Antwerp. He is an artist, photographer and writer. His paintings can be read as a translation of his personal philosophy on the relationship between man and nature. This theme unfolds in the figuration of plants, stones and objects, which he depicts iconographically. In doing so, he tries to unravel the hidden structure of society driven by economic and political models and explore the value of authenticity. Thus, during long walks with or without a camera, he takes space and time to write, paint and simply be in the landscape. He looks for a connection that is missing in our society, especially in urban contexts. This principle is also reflected in the materiality. In an artisanal way, he often, but not exclusively, mixes animal glue with natural pigments.

Eva Birkenstock verlässt das Ludwig Forum Aachen und wird neue Direktorin der Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover

Eva Birkenstock wechselt im August 2025 als Direktorin an die Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover. Birkenstock war seit Oktober 2021 als Direktorin am Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen tätig, wo sie nach der Wiedereröffnung des Hauses infolge der Pandemie ein viel beachtetes Ausstellungsprogramm und Transformationsprozesse des Museums verantwortete. Mit Einzelausstellungen von Künstler*innen wie Rosemary Mayer, Belkis Ayón, Kerstin Brätsch oder demnächst von Amy Sillman, anhand von zahlreichen Sammlungsneupräsentationen und -ankäufen, lokalen, überregionalen und internationalen Kooperationen, durch das Initiieren von großen Restaurierungsvorhaben sowie der Implementierung eines Residenzprogramm am Haus konnte sie zentrale Impulse setzen und das Haus noch stärker international platzieren.

„Nach knapp vier intensiven wie prägenden Jahren am Ludwig Forum Aachen, freue ich mich, ein neues Kapitel der legendären Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover mit zu gestalten. Ich danke der Stadt Aachen und insbesondere dem fantastischen Team des Museums, dem Freundeskreis sowie der Ludwig Stiftung für die inspirierende, engagierte und vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit. Nur so konnten wir innerhalb kürzester Zeit nach der Wiederöffnung infolge der Covid Pandemie gemeinsam ein weit über die Stadtgrenzen hinaus beachtetes Programm am Ludwig Forum Aachen realisieren“, so Eva Birkenstock.

Oberbürgermeisterin Sibylle Keupen über den Weggang Birkenstocks: „Mit Eva Birkenstock verlieren wir eine Museumsdirektorin, die im Besonderen mit Ausstellungen und Sammlungserweiterungen das beeindruckende, oftmals in der Kunstwelt vernachlässigte Schaffen zeitgenössischer Künstlerinnen vorgestellt hat.” Der Beigeordnete für Kultur der Stadt Aachen Heinrich Brötz ergänzt:
„Frau Birkenstock hat mit hochwertigen Ausstellungen und auch spartenübergreifend wichtige Akzente gesetzt, die insbesondere auch die Diversität der Kunstschaffenden ins Licht gerückt und in den Kontext der Sammlung Ludwig gestellt haben. Diese Ausrichtung wurde auch überregional und international sehr positiv wahrgenommen. Ich bin ihr dankbar, dass Sie das Ludwig Forum in dieser Form und Qualität positioniert hat und wünsche ihr bei ihrer neuen Aufgabe alles erdenklich Gute.“

Eva Birkenstock studierte Kunstgeschichte, Ethnologie und spanische Romanistik in Köln, Berlin und Havanna. Nachdem sie 2008 die künstlerische Leitung der Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg übernahm, war sie von 2010 bis 2013 als Kuratorin am Kunsthaus Bregenz tätig und leitete während eines Auslandaufenthalts im Rahmen eines Kuratorinnenstipendiums 2014 in New York den Ausstellungsraum des Goethe-Instituts „Ludlow 38“. Ab 2015 kuratierte sie vier Jahre lang des unabhängige Performance Programm der Liste Art Fair in Basel. Von 2016 bis 2021 war sie Direktorin des Düsseldorfer Kunstvereins bevor sie an das Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst wechselte.

In Aachen verantwortet sie neben der Ausstellung „Amy Sillman: Oh, Clock!“ (Eröffnung 21. März 2025) noch die Planung des Ausstellungsprogramms bis zum Frühjahr 2026. Die letzte von ihr persönlich kuratierte Ausstellung vor ihrem Wechsel nach Hannover ist: „Rochelle Feinstein: The Today Show“ (Eröffnung 10. Juli 2025), eine Kooperation mit dem Kunsthaus Glarus und der Secession in Wien.

Eva Birkenstock is leaving Ludwig Forum Aachen to be the new director of Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover

Eva Birkenstock will join Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover as the new director in August 2025. Birkenstock has been director at Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen since October 2021, where she was responsible for a much-noticed exhibition program and the museum’s transformation processes following the museum’s reopening after the pandemic. With solo exhibitions by artists such as Rosemary Mayer, Belkis Ayón, Kerstin Brätsch, and soon Amy Sillman, numerous new collection presentations and acquisitions, local, national and international collaborations, the initiation of major restoration projects and the implementation of a residency program at the museum, she has been able to provide pivotal impulses for positioning the museum even more internationally.

“After almost four intensive and formative years at Ludwig Forum Aachen, I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter at the legendary Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover. I would like to thank the city of Aachen and in particular the fantastic team at the museum, the friends of the museum, and the Ludwig Foundation for their inspiring, committed and trusting cooperation. Together we could realize a program at Ludwig Forum Aachen that attracted attention far beyond the city within a very short time after the reopening due to the Covid pandemic,” says Eva Birkenstock.

Mayor Sibylle Keupen on Birkenstock’s departure: “With Eva Birkenstock we are losing a museum director who, in particular, has presented the impressive work of contemporary women artists, which is often neglected in the art world, through exhibitions and expanding the collection.” Councilor for Culture of the City of Aachen Heinrich Brötz adds: “With high-quality, multidisciplinary exhibitions Eva Birkenstock has set important highlights focusing in particular on the diversity of artists in the context of the Ludwig Collection. This focus was perceived very positively both nationally and internationally. I thank her for positioning the Ludwig Forum in this form and quality and wish her all the best in her new role.”

Eva Birkenstock studied art history, cultural anthropology, and Spanish Romance languages in Cologne, Berlin, and Havana. After becoming director of Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg in 2008, she worked as a curator at Kunsthaus Bregenz between 2010 to 2013, and ran the Goethe-Institut’s exhibition space “Ludlow 38” as part of a curatorial fellowship in New York in 2014. From 2015 to 2019 she curated the independent Performance Project of Liste Art Fair Basel. Between 2016 and 2021, she was director of Kunstverein in Düsseldorf before moving to Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst.

In Aachen, she is curator of the exhibition “Amy Sillman: Oh, Clock!” (opening March 21, 2025) and still responsible for the exhibition program until spring 2026. “Rochelle Feinstein: The Today Show” (opening July 10, 2025), a collaboration with the Kunsthaus Glarus and the Secession in Vienna, will be the last exhibition curated by Eva Birkenstock at Ludwig Forum.

This is a newsletter with a lapidary (etymological context of this word: lapis, lapid- ‘stone’, Latin) character: concise and succint, featuring two upcoming events in the next few weeks. First up is Tomoko Hojo‘s post-residency presentation, who will share the ongoing development of Whispered Screaming, a practice exploring suppressed vocal expression as a form of micro-resistance. Our monthly Second Sundays listening session is taken care of by Michaela Turcerová, whom we were able to catch on her tour along the KRAAK festival, among others.

Tomoko Hojo
This performance is a moment of sharing, focussing on the ongoing development of Whispered Screaming, a practice that has been in progress since 2022. Initially conceived as a solo performance piece, it involves screaming under throat pressure, resulting in a whisper-like voice. This method disrupts the usual release of bodily energy through the mouth, creating physical struggle and a sense of “pain”—a reflection of the conflict between the urge to scream and the inability to do so. Based on personal experiences during the Asian Hate Movement in NYC, the piece serves as a form of micro-resistance against the increasing outbursts of rage, violence, and hate spreading across the world. The silenced pain, often hidden even from those who experience it, becomes tangible through this practice, transforming into performance.
During Tomoko Hojo’s residency, the focus lies on exploring the ‘whispered/silenced state’ that emerges only through real physical struggle. The act of utterance is blocked despite the attempt, yet quiet breath and inaudible screams escape through the face and body. This work examines the process of voicing, sounding, and screaming, and how the body and emotions transform in relation to that struggle. Here, silence is no longer passive; it becomes a powerful visual presence and an imaginative noise, even in the absence of sound.

Michaela Turcerová

Michaela Turcerová is a musician and composer from Banská Bystrica in Slovakia based in Copenhagen, playing alto/soprano saxophone and bass clarinet in the realm of partly open scores, (un)conventional notations, conceptual ideas, minimalism and physical space . She leads the doudouči ensemble and ensemble šum.um, works on her solo project IN FLUX, and plays in multiple groups, including ALAWARI, Wolfskin Ensemble, and mocean.
Second Sundays is a monthly series initiated by Q-O2. Each session a new guest is invited to share an insight into their own listening, playing and speaking about a selection of sound and music that is important to their thinking or practice. The sessions try to put value on listening to recorded music in a social setting as a space for discussion. Each session is paired with a cocktail-of-the-month, as decided by the invited guest.

The 2025 festival Oscillation ::: The Weather departs from practices around field recording – listening to one’s environment through microphones, memory, or language. The festival will link field recording to the weather as phenomenon, as metaphor, and as concept, able to cause poetic and beautiful effects but also to manifest radically destructive events.
4 days (1-4 May) of concerts, (in-situ) performances, a conference, round table conversations, walks, a series of workshops, a field trip and an uninterrupted radio stream. All of this is hosted by Le Brass, BiS (Bodies in Space), atelier 210, La Cheminée and more places to be announced. The complete line-up and breakdown per day will go online soon, as will the ticket sales for seperate days. Festival passes are already available here.

Cas-co blaast tien kaarsen uit. Tien jaar maakten we samen met kunstenaars en partners ruimte voor artistieke ontwikkeling, experiment, ontmoeting, presentatie in Leuven. Vandaag herbergt onze ruimte een levendige en solidaire kunstenaarscommunity, die de stad met andere ecosystemen in het binnen- en buitenland verbindt. Blik samen met ons terug op een decennium Cas-co tijdens onze jubileumviering op donderdag 13 maart. Het dagprogramma ‘Prints&Puns’ co-organiseren we met UFO en richt zich op peers. ‘s Avonds vieren we met iedereen die Cas-co een warm hart toedraagt. Een hele dag lang worden, op verschillende plekken en momenten, artistieke interventies uit de brede Cas-community getoond. We starten de dag met de pilooteditie van de UFO Mixers:​ ‘Prints & Puns, whe­re Artists make a Mark’ is een programma dat kunstenaars en professionals verzamelt rond kunstenaarspublicaties en drukkunst.

Cas-coffer: in Off the Shelves worden riso prints uit de Cas-community gepresenteerd en verkocht. Elke kunstenaars die ooit in Cas-co werkte, werd uitgenodigd om een ontwerp aan te leveren voor de Cas-coffer. Koop een enkele print of stel zelf een doos met je favoriete prints samen en steun zo de community. Een enkele print kost 8 euro, een doos met 5 prints 25 euro en een doos met 10 prints 40 euro.

Collective-in-residence Bienvenue (Off the Grid): de centrale ruimte van Off the Grid werd ingericht als avondclub door het collective-in-residence Bienvenue. Deze set-up wordt later ingezet als scenografie voor de residentiepresentatie, die opent op 8 mei.

Artist-in-residence Robin Faymonville (Off the Grid): kunstenaar en performer Robin Faymonville werkt rond taal. Tijdens het jubileumfeest lanceert hij zijn nieuwe residentieproject.

Vlaggen: op het schoolplein van Brede school Stroom, op 3 minuten wandelen van Cas-co, wappert een nieuwe jubileumvlag ontworpen door kunstenaars Maya Strobbe en Lieselotte Vloeberghs. In Off the Grid wordt een selectie uit het archief van reuzenvlaggen gepresenteerd.

Project Space Minckelers: Jente Waerzeggers is foto­graaf, beel­dend kun­ste­naar, muzi­kant en jarig op 13 maart. De afge­lo­pen jaren documenteerde hij het voed­sel dat hij en zijn vrien­den aten. Voor de presentatie ‘Happy Birthday‘ selecteerde hij de beste beelden.

February Interjection: Gain – Ariana Reines

Ariana Reines’s newest books are Wave of Blood (2024) and The Rose (2025). A Sand Book (2019) won the Kingsley Tufts Prize and was longlisted for the National Book Award.  TELEPHONE, her Obie-winning play, was produced by the Foundry Theatre in 2009.  Ariana has created performances for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Swiss Institute, Stuart Shave / Modern Art, and many others.  Born in Salem, Massachusetts, she teaches at Invisible College and lives in Queens, NY.

Kaiya Waerea is a writer, designer and publisher from Aotearoa, now living in London. Their research is concerned with crip feminist methodologies, indigenous knowledge production, and print culture. Kaiya’s writing has been featured in Counter Signals 5: Systems and their Discontents, Errant Journal: Learning from our Ancestors, AIGA Eye on Design and others. Kaiya also co-runs feminist press Sticky Fingers Publishing, an intra-dependant feminist press based in South East London.

Celebrate LGBTQ+ history month with us at The Library at Deptford Lounge

Join us on the 13th of February for Deptford Lounge’s Independent Publishers Showcase as part of LGBTQ+ history month. We’ll have performances from Sam Cottington, author of Phone Plays, and Rosanna McLaughlin, author of Sinkhole: Three Crimes, and end the night with a conversation about Montez Press and the indie publishing scene in London. 

Sam Cottington is an artist and writer based between London and Frankfurt. His written work takes form as plays, novellas and short stories and his artistic work spans painting, sculpture, video and installation. He studied Art and Art History at Goldsmiths University in London and is currently studying Fine Art at Städelschule in Frankfurt. His first novella People Person was published by JOAN in 2023, and a collection of his plays was published by Montez Press in 2024. Recent exhibitions included Louche Ops, Berlin (2025), Nir Altman, Munich (2024), and London Performance Studios (2024).

Rosanna McLaughlin is a writer and editor who lives in East Sussex. She is the author of two books: Double-Tracking (Carcanet, 2019), a collection of satirical essays and short fiction, and the novel Sinkhole (Montez Press, 2023). Her essays, cultural criticism and short fiction have been published by The Guardian, ArtReview and Granta among other places. She was formerly co-editor of The White Review.

This newsletter is mainly rather short-notice reminder for a workshop about warm-ups next weekend, led by our current artist in residence, Tomoko Hojo. Warm-ups are small practices that precede the main practice—holding immense potential, but rarely shared—so bring your own, share them, and help create a collective ‘warm-up score’ across disciplines. The following weekend we welcome KRAAK with open arms to our sound cosmos, and, at the bottom of the newsletter, you’ll find a treat in the form of documentation from our latest Second Sundays.

Warm-up scores: “Awakenings” with Tomoko Hojo
Warm-ups are small practices that precede the main practice. They offer a chance to listen carefully to your mood, to feel how your body responds, and to build connections with other participants. These warm-ups are not “artworks” themselves, and are rarely shared outside the community. However, they hold immense potential, ready to grow in different directions. Warm-ups are seeds, waiting for new ideas to bloom.
Please bring your own warm-up ideas, and let’s share and develop them together with other participants. Then, let’s try to document them as a collection of ‘warm-up scores’—through text and/or illustrations—to make them more universal. Participants from all backgrounds are welcome—music, visual arts, dance, theatre, sports, or any other field.
Tomoko Hojo is an artist working at the intersection of sound, music, and performance. She has focused on amplifying silenced (women’s) voices throughout history, particularly Japanese women with connections to the West, such as Yoko Ono and Sadayakko Kawakami. Tomoko is currently artist in residency at Q-O2.

KRAAK and Q-O2 are stoked to host the release concert of Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh’s latest album Lux Gratis, out on CD February 18. Resulting from her 2024 residency in Q-O2, Lux Gratis takes Ailbhe down new roads of experimentation, integrating organs and electronics into her unrestrained sonic parlance. Flanked by the new-fangled duo of Steenkiste & Bischoff and their ringing drone magic, we’re all set to gather around for a night of auditory rapture alongside all ye eager-eared out there.

Ian Wallace’s In the Street series (1988–1989) represents a pivotal development in his sustained engagement with the visual, social, and theoretical dimensions of urban space. As a key figure in the development of photo-conceptualism in Canada, Wallace has consistently examined the intersection of painting and photography, bringing theoretical strategies to bear on questions of representation, spectatorship, and modernity. In the Street extends and refines the critical concerns first articulated in earlier works such as the Poverty series (early 1980s), while also marking an important moment of international recognition with Wallace’s first solo exhibition with Greta Meert in Brussels in 1989, ushering in the gallery’s second year.  

Ian Wallace (b. 1943 Shoreham, England) is a central figure in the development of conceptual art in Vancouver, a movement that has garnered international recognition since the early 1970s. Alongside artists such as Rodney Graham, Ken Lum and Jeff Wall, he has played a formative role in shaping the city’s distinctive approach to photo-conceptualism. His career began in the mid 1960s when he accepted a professorship at the University of British Columbia, where he would go on to influence a generation of artists, including Jeff Wall. Balancing his academic career with his artistic practice, Wallace continued to teach until the late 1990s while simultaneously refining a visual language that integrates the formalism of monochrome painting with the indexicality of documentary photography. His sustained engagement with avant-garde strategies, particularly those emerging from modernist and conceptual traditions, underscores his critical contribution to the contemporary art discourse.

Een korte maand, maar dat betekent niet dat we minder nieuws hebben. Bekijk hier wat februari nog in petto heeft voor we even sluiten om de nieuwe tentoonstellingen op te bouwen. Geen zorgen, 29 maart is het terug tijd voor een spetterend openingsfeest met DJ Numwami! Daarover later meer, maar nu eerst…

Laatste kans voor Super Palace

Om de tentoonstelling feestelijk af te sluiten, staan er nog enkele activiteiten gepland op de laatste dag.
Op 23 februari sluit Lucy McKenzie zelf aan voor Zondaggasten om te praten over de kunst van het etaleren. Hierna komt DJ Roger Mostmans muziek spelen op het monumentale Decap-orgel. Van foxtrot tot schlager, er zal voor elk wat wils zijn tijdens Dansen met Decap.

Yonicles combineert het beste van twee werelden: design en speelgoed. Verschillende vormen passen als een puzzel in elkaar. Ook over het materiaal werd nagedacht: zacht, afwasbaar en gemaakt in België.

Zes weken lang kregen Hasseltse scholieren les in Z33 buiten de vertrouwde schoolmuren. Hun lessen gingen door bij Z33, van wiskunde tot haarzorg. Hoe ervaarden ze dit? Welk effect heeft kunst op het welzijn? Dat wordt de inzet van het panelgesprek op 20 februari. Waar kunstenaar Ief Spincemaille spreekt vanuit zijn praktijk, vult Diederik De Ceuster (Projectleider Kunstvakken lerarenopleiding UCLL en Kernonderzoeker Kunst bij Art of Teaching) aan vanuit onderwijshoek. Samen met een ervaringsdeskundige zorg en welzijn Hilde Caluwaerts en moderator Sven Speybrouck (VRT Radio 1) belichten ze de impact van kunst op het welzijn van jongeren.

Heb jij alle bijzonderheden van de muurschildering in onze kapel al bestudeerd? Elke maand lichten we een detail uit van Amber Andrews’ samenspel van beelden. Deze maand: de neus. 

Schilders hebben veel angsten. Neuzen, bijvoorbeeld. Tenminste, dat zegt Amber Andrews. Maar zij zelf ziet elke neus ook als een kans. Om de lyrische vorm ervan in de verf te zetten. En als een manier om een personage te bevrijden. Want zo’n opvallende neus zegt ook: ik ben wie ik wil zijn, hier in het schilderij. En de realiteit, die heeft geen vat op mij.

[n0dine] Arise therefore – an allegory by Alexis Destoop, curated by Various Artists

[EN] Alexis Destoop presents new work in our n0dine project space, as an attempt to capture the elusive vitality of the forest, particularly in the aftermath of wildfires. By reassembling infrared images, he calls for strength and resistance against the destructive storms which have swept across the landscape.

[NL] Alexis Destoop presenteert nieuw werk in de projectruimte n0dine waarin hij de ongrijpbare levendigheid van het bos tracht vast te leggen, vooral in de nasleep van bosbranden. Door infraroodbeelden opnieuw samen te stellen, roept hij op tot kracht en verzet tegen de verwoestende stormen die over het landschap raasden.

[FR] Alexis Destoop présente son nouveau travail dans l’espace d’exposition n0dine. Il cherche à restituer la vitalité insaisissable et inaltérable de la forêt, dans le sillage des incendies. En recomposant des images infrarouges, il lance un appel à la force et à la résistance face aux tempêtes dévastatrices qui ont bouleversé le paysage.

[extra muros] You hunter You by Sara ten Westenend
09/02/2025 — gathering

[EN] Part of Sara ten Westenend’s artistic research You hunter You, ongoing since February 2022 — at Maarten Van Gool’s organic farm in Attenrode – was a dinner. A year ago, two capes were made from the cloth covering the dinner table. One cape stayed on site; the other was sent out and worn by 17 hunters in various countries. That cape is returning to the farm, where the hunters will gather on Sunday, February 9th, to share their stories.

[NL] Een deel van het artistieke onderzoek van Sara ten Westenend You hunter You, dat sinds februari 2022 doorgaat op de biologische boerderij van Maarten Van Gool in Attenrode, was een diner. Een jaar geleden werden er twee capes gemaakt van het tafellaken. Eén cape bleef op de locatie, de andere werd verstuurd en gedragen door 17 jagers in verschillende landen. Die cape keert nu terug naar de boerderij, waar de jagers op zondag 9 februari samenkomen om hun verhalen te delen.

[FR] Une partie de la recherche artistique de Sara ten Westenend You hunter You, en cours depuis février 2022 à la ferme biologique de Maarten Van Gool à Attenrode, était un dîner. Il y a un an, deux capes ont été fabriquées à partir du tissu qui recouvrait la table de dîner. Une cape est restée sur place ; l’autre a été envoyée et portée par 17 chasseurs dans différents pays. Cette cape revient maintenant à la ferme, où les chasseurs se rassembleront le dimanche 9 février pour partager leurs histoires.

[EN] The Leonardo/ISAST LASER Talks are a program of international gatherings with artists, scientists and technologists in informal presentations with a wide public. LASER Talks Brussels are curated by Alexandra Dementieva. The upcoming topic is MicroTuning, an artistic research project in the fields of bioart, energy art, art-science and bioethics. 

[NL] De Leonardo/ISAST LASER Talks zijn een programma van internationale bijeenkomsten met kunstenaars, wetenschappers en technologen, waarbij informele presentaties worden gegeven voor een breed publiek. De LASER Talks in Brussel worden gecureerd door Alexandra Dementieva. Het aankomende onderwerp is MicroTuning, een artistiek onderzoeksproject op het gebied van bio-art, energiekunst, kunst-wetenschap en bio-ethiek.

[FR] Les LASER Talks de Leonardo/ISAST sont un programme de rencontres internationales avec des artistes, des scientifiques et des technologues, lors de présentations informelles destinées à un large public. [EN] Clément Thiry is looking for participants for the try-out of DERIVE SOMNOLENTE, a collective nap experience questioning how sleepiness can influence our perception of reality and how different people’s dreams can come together.

[NL] Clément Thiry is op zoek naar deelnemers voor de try-out van DERIVE SOMNOLENTE, een collectieve rustervaring die onderzoekt hoe slaperigheid onze perceptie van de realiteit kan beïnvloeden en hoe de dromen van verschillende mensen kunnen samenkomen.

[FR] Clément Thiry est à la recherche des participants pour l’expérimentation de DERIVE SOMNOLENTE, une expérience de repos collectif qui interroge la manière dont l’endormissement peut influencer notre perception de la réalité et comment les rêves de différentes personnes peuvent se rejoindre.

Giulietta D'Ugo et Arnaud Degimbe vous emmèneront
dans l'Italie méridionale, et plus précisément en Calabre et Basilicate.
Les fêtes traditionnelles encore bien vivantes, vibrent au son
d'instruments comme le tambourin sur cadre et de diverses zampognas, 
cornemuses rencontrées dans ces régions. 
Depuis
longtemps passionné par la grande famille des cornemuses, Arnaud
Degimbe vous fera découvrir quelques-uns de ces instruments
DJ Afrah / Les marinelles
Durant les années 90's et 2000, ce duo de Djettes a longtemps mixé des cassettes puis des cd dans des soirées et mariages. Leur répértoire explore la musique arabo-marocaine allant du chaabi au raï en passant par le reggada et fait honneur à des labels bruxellois emblématiques de ce genre musical tel que Fassiphone.

Met veel plezier nodigt Marres je uit voor de feestelijke opening van de tentoonstelling Vultures & Fireflies door de kunstenaar Alejandro Galvàn.

Van eind november 2024 tot juli 2025 schildert Alejandro Galván (Mexico, 1990) een kroniek over Mexico bij Marres. Zijn storytelling biedt bezoekers een hypergedetailleerde weergave van zijn stad Nezahualcóyotl, een voorstad van Mexico City, waarin hij materialen uit diverse bronnen vermengt, zoals sensatiebladen, strips, heavy metal-muziek en Mexicaanse folklore. Beelden van geïmproviseerde architectuur, zoenende koppeltjes, bendegeweld, brandende auto’s, soapsterren, mariachi-bands en travestieten worden aanschouwd door gigantische pre-Columbiaanse mythologische figuren. Deze figuren lijken de balans van grove onrechtvaardigheid en wijdverbreide corruptie te herstellen in wat Galván omschrijft als een levendige droom van de Mexicaanse samenleving.
