FONDATION CAB Brussels is honoured to host an exhibition dedicated to the American artist Richard Nonas (1936-2021, New York). La FONDATION CAB de Bruxelles a l’honneur d’accueillir une exposition dédiée à l’artiste américain Richard Nonas (1936-2021, New York). Celle-ci offre une immersion fascinante dans le monde singulier de Nonas, un sculpteur dont le travail se distingue par une exploration profonde de l’espace, de la matière et de la perception.
A travers ses oeuvres, souvent composées de matériaux bruts comme le bois, le métal et la pierre, il crée des sculptures minimalistes qui interrogent les relations entre l’objet et son environnement. Nonas explore comment ces éléments simples, par leur placement et leur forme, peuvent transformer notre perception des lieux et évoquer des sensations de stabilité et de déséquilibre.

FONDATION CAB Brussel is verheugd een tentoonstelling te organiseren gewijd aan de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Richard Nonas (1936-2021, New York). De tentoonstelling biedt een fascinerende onderdompeling in de unieke wereld van Nonas, een beeldhouwer wiens werk wordt gekenmerkt door een verkenning van ruimte, materie en perceptie.
Met zijn werken, vaak samengesteld uit ruwe materialen zoals hout, metaal en steen, creëert hij minimalistische sculpturen die de relatie tussen het object en zijn omgeving in vraag stellen. Nonas onderzoekt hoe deze eenvoudige elementen door hun plaatsing en vorm onze perceptie van plaats kunnen veranderen en sensaties van stabiliteit en onbalans kunnen oproepen.
Door zijn unieke benadering bevraagt Richard Nonas de grenzen tussen kunst en architectuur, tussen het natuurlijke en het kunstmatige. Fondation CAB Brussels is pleased to present its 31th artist-in-residence, Gwendolyn Lootens (b. 1981, Gent, Belgium).
The work of Gwendolyn Lootens starts from the intuitive action and continuous process of drawing, through ‘moments’ on paper, ‘moving moments’ on video, and ‘situations’ in public space. She explores the relation between gestures, emotions and abstract images. She captures in real time traces of actions on camera. Repeating movements – rolling, rubbing, holding still, ironing, sliding, squeezing… with everyday materials – tape, oil, flour, magnets, dishes, strings,… coming together in sequences, short abstract video works called ‘moving moments’. Employing time as a medium, the images are often ephemeral: a breathing zone within the nearly disappearing, the intangible, the fragile. She start working without a plan, embracing the unpredictable and allowing failure, discovering the strength within a moment of weakness.

La Fondation CAB Bruxelles a le plaisir de présenter sa 31e artiste en résidence, Gwendolyn Lootens (n. 1981, Gand, Belgium).
Le travail de Gwendolyn Lootens part de l’action intuitive et du processus continu du dessin, à travers des « moments » sur papier, des « moments en mouvement » sur vidéo et des « situations » dans l’espace public.
Gwendolyn Lootens partage également sa pratique à travers des « situations » dans l’espace public ou dans un contexte d’exposition, un « terrain de jeu pour adultes ». Existant sous forme d’œuvres participatives et performatives basées sur le temps, elle invite les gens à expérimenter ensemble une image ou un mouvement. Son travail est nourri par un fort engagement social et un désir de partager la paternité.
L’archivage fait partie du travail de Lootens, pour garder une trace des moments, des moments en mouvement et des situations et les placer dans des montages. Dans un contexte d’exposition, elle développe des installations en mouvement à partir de divers éléments superposés de l’œuvre, invitant les visiteurs à contempler, à interagir et à toucher.

Het werk van Gwendolyn Lootens is gebaseerd op de intuïtieve actie en het continue proces van tekenen, door middel van ‘momenten’ op papier, ‘momenten in beweging’ op video en ‘situaties’ in de publieke ruimte.
Gwendolyn Lootens deelt haar praktijk ook door middel van ‘situaties’ in de openbare ruimte of in een tentoonstellingscontext, een ‘speeltuin voor volwassenen’. In de vorm van participatieve en performatieve werken gebaseerd op tijd, nodigt ze mensen uit om samen te experimenteren met een beeld of een beweging. Haar werk wordt gevoed door een sterk sociaal engagement en een verlangen om het auteurschap te delen.
Archiveren maakt deel uit van Lootens’ werk, het bijhouden van momenten, het verplaatsen van momenten en situaties en deze in montages plaatsen. In een tentoonstellingscontext ontwikkelt ze bewegende installaties met behulp van verschillende boven elkaar geplaatste elementen van het werk, die bezoekers uitnodigen tot contemplatie, interactie en aanraking.
