Specific Subjects, Edith Dekyndt, Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence, 2024

Edith Dekyndt’s project for Fondation CAB in Saint-Paul de Vence, Specific Subjects, weaves together new and evolving technologies, ancestral knowledge and contemporary issues. Some of the works challenge the decomposition of matter, allowing us to sketch out an atmosphere between brutality and fragility, problematising the presence of these two antagonistic notions in the same place. The exhibition at Saint-Paul de Vence is both a journey through Edith Dekyndt’s artistic universe, where the dialogue between nature and culture intertwines with the land, and an experience that transcends the usual spaces of art. As viewers, she invites us to explore multiple levels of meaning and to question our understanding of space, memory and temporality.

Le projet d’Edith Dekyndt pour la Fondation CAB à Saint-Paul de Vence, Specific Subjects, tisse des liens entre les technologies nouvelles et évolutives, les savoirs ancestraux et les enjeux contemporains. Certaines œuvres défient la décomposition de la matière, permettant d’esquisser une atmosphère entre brutalité et fragilité, problématisant la présence de ces deux notions antagonistes dans un même lieu. L’exposition à Saint-Paul de Vence est à la fois un parcours dans l’univers artistique d’Edith Dekyndt, où le dialogue entre la nature et la culture s’entremêle avec le territoire, ainsi qu’une expérience qui transcende les espaces habituels de l’art. Elle nous invite, en tant que spectateurs à explorer de multiples niveaux de signification et à remettre en question notre compréhension de l’espace, de la mémoire et de la temporalité.

Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence presents an exhibition by the Belgian designer duo Muller Van Severen. Fien Muller (1978, Lokeren) and Hannes Van Severen (1979, Ghent) offer a selection of pieces from the last 12 years completed by unusual objects such as prototypes, drawings and materials. An additional dimension is given to the experience thanks to close-ups taken by the photographer duo Scheltens and Abbenes. Between art and design, Muller Van Severen creates pieces of furniture that interact with the space in which they are located and are distinguished by careful research into art, architecture and materials. ​

La Fondation CAB à Saint-Paul-de-Vence présente une exposition du duo de designers belges Muller Van Severen. Fien Muller (1978, Lokeren) et Hannes Van Severen (1979, Gand) proposent une sélection de pièces  de ces 12 dernières années complétée par des objets insolites tels que des prototypes, des dessins et des matériaux. Une dimension supplémentaire est donnée à l’expérience grace à des gros plans réalisés par le duo de photographes Scheltens et Abbenes.  Entre art et design Muller Van Severen crée des pièces de mobilier  qui interagissent avec l’espace dans lequel elles se trouvent et se distinguent par une recherche minutieuse sur l’art, l’architecture et les matériaux. ​  ​

Les quatre chambres de la Fondation CAB ont été dessinées par l’architecte et designer Charles Zana pour offrir à chacun de nos hôtes une expérience exceptionnelle. Simplicité et raffinement se mêlent à l’art omniprésent du jardin qui les entoure.

During the fall and winter, Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence opens the doors of its guest rooms at preferential rates. The four rooms of the foundation were designed by the architect and designer Charles Zana to offer each of our guests an exceptional experience. Presentation of Ariane Loze’s catalogue, followed by a discussion with the artist and the curator Charlotte Crevits. Ariane Loze, born in 1988 in Brussels and based between Brussels and Paris, is a video artist who performs in her works. Her work explores the interaction between her body, the camera and the audience, revealing the relativity of points of view and the manipulations inherent in the video medium. In 2019, during her residency at Fondation CAB Brussels, Ariane created a video in dialogue with the architecture of the foundation and exploring the writings of the founding artists of minimal art. This work was presented as part of the Figures on a Ground exhibition at Fondation CAB Brussels in 2020.
The catalogue published by MAC’s and MER Books was published to coincide with the exhibition L’Archipel du moi at MAC’s Grand Hornu.
The discussion will be conducted in English and French.

Son travail explore l’interaction entre son corps, la caméra et le public, révélant la relativité des points de vue et les manipulations inhérentes au médium vidéo. En 2019, lors de sa résidence à la Fondation CAB de Bruxelles, Ariane Loze a créé une œuvre vidéo en dialogue avec l’architecture de la Fondation et explorant les écrits des artistes fondateurs de l’art minimal. Cette œuvre a été présentée lors de l’exposition Figures on a Ground à la Fondation CAB en 2020.
Le catalogue au éditions MAC’s et MER Books a été publié à l’occasion de l’exposition L’Archipel du moi au MAC’s Grand Hornu.

Ariane Loze, geboren in 1988 in Brussel en woonachtig tussen Brussel en Parijs, is een videokunstenaar die optreedt in haar werk. Haar werk verkent de interactie tussen haar lichaam, de camera en het publiek, en onthult de relativiteit van gezichtspunten en de manipulaties die inherent zijn aan het medium video. In 2019, tijdens haar residentie bij Fondation CAB Brussel, creëerde Ariane Loze een videowerk dat in dialoog gaat met de architectuur van de stichting en de geschriften van de stichtende kunstenaars van de minimal art verkent. Dit werk werd gepresenteerd als onderdeel van de tentoonstelling Figures on a Ground in Fondation CAB Brussel in 2020.

Fondation CAB Brussels is pleased to invite you to the open studio of its 31th artist-in-residence, Gwendolyn Lootens (b. 1981, Gent, Belgium). Gwendolyn Lootens’ work is based on the intuitive action and ongoing process of drawing, through “moments” on paper, “moments in motion” on video and “situations” in public space. For her open studio, Gwendolyn Lootens will make a spatial installation with drawings and multiple video screens, also showing new works she made during her residency at Fondation CAB. She will also do a situation in the kitchen at 4 pm.

FONDATION CAB Brussels is honoured to host an exhibition dedicated to the American artist Richard Nonas (1936-2021, New York).
