Manon de Boer and Latifa Laâbissi

With Persona Manon de Boer and Latifa Laâbissi have created a new film of reenactment, or reinterpretation, based on the Mary Wigman’s 1926 performance Hexentanz in which trance is transformed into a [removed];The eerie grimaces are subdued by an inward-looking, withdrawn countenance, and the shrill drum sounds are replaced by the faint rustle of the dancer’s snakeskin costume and the soft sounds of her breathing while the camera slowly circles the enigmatic figure.
Since 2015 Manon de Boer and Latifa Laâbissi have been in continuous dialogue about the numerous voices that inhabit their thinking and bodies. During a long process of exchange and ‘cannibalizing’, the performance Ghost Party (1) (2021) was created that further lead to the production of the film Ghost Party (2) (2022) as well as Persona (2022).
