Each session a new guest is invited to share an insight into their own listening, playing and speaking about a selection of sound and music that is important to their thinking or practice. For its twenty-eighth edition, experimental pop musician Céline Gillain will share some of the music she has been interested in lately, it goes from AI generated music and experimental electronic to counterintuitive techno, R&B, bittersweet pop and spooky spoken words. workshop 19 February – 14h-18h The IKO audio speaker – workshop with Jürgen De Blonde The IKO is an audio loudspeaker capable of projecting Higher Order Ambisonics in a unique way, namely from a central point outwards rather than through the surrounding speakers towards the centre of the room. During the workshop, the possibilities of this instrument will be demonstrated and explored: its interaction with the space and how the sound can be acoustically controlled; a range of techniques using Ambisonics and other surround/spatial sound tools will be explored, and there will also be the opportunity to play or try out short fragments of your own (time permitting). concert 19 February – 20h Audio works for the IKO speaker The IKO is a revolutionary new 3D audio speaker which projects Higher Order Ambisonics in a unique way: from a central point outwards instead of via an array or surround speakers towards the centre. post-residency performance 22 February – 18h (doors 17h30) Peter Kutin: [removed]—Immutable mobile [removed] – Immutable mobile (current state) is based on the rotation of light-sources and an directly integrated light-to-audio-feedback-system. The light’s intensity generate proportional audiosignals – the combination of these two basic parameters alongside with an electroacoustic soundscape should give the structure to a piece that will dwell between seduction and confrontation. installation 7 December – 13 February Farida Amadou — In-Between Last days! In the framework of Europalia, Farida Amadou presents an audiovisual installation in two parts. A first space, littered with objects from the railway universe, is mixed with amplified piano chords, allowing the public to create a sound improvisation. A second space combines moving images of trains in Belgium. They merge to create a compilation of contemporary perspectives. She integrates sounds that she has captured during recent collaborations with musicians from all walks of life, recorded during 2020. [more info]
