Lionel Estève (Baronian Xippas Gallery) worked on the idea of a stained-glass window symbolising solidarity. ‘I wanted to use paint, like a sleight of hand, to reveal the softness, suppleness and transparency of candle wax. CANDLE UP! Brussels Gallery Weekend & Quintessence

We’ve been lucky to organize our event all these years, thanks to the continued commitment of our artists. Now they are going through difficult times, it’s our turn to support them’, explains Sybille du Roy, director of BGW. The concrete idea for Candle Up! emerged after a conversation with Valentine Pozzo di Borgo, founder of Quintessence LAB, and specialized in the creation of sophisticated olfactory experiences. ‘Why not create candles to give people a glimmer of hope?’.

Who’s Feed the Culture?
Feed the Culture offers support to affected members of the cultural and events sector in the Brussels Region. As a civic platform of volunteers, it distributes free food parcels – comprising 100% unsold food – every Saturday to those hit hardest by the health crisis. ‘Feed the Culture was born out of necessity’, insists founder Pauline Duclaud-Lacoste. ‘We want to support workers in this sector today, so that tomorrow they can still say with pride, “I am an artist”’.
