NEW SONGS FOR OLD CITIES

On January 23, the exhibition New Songs for Old Cities opens in Netwerk [removed];The exhibition brings together ideas of residence, public address and art in an urban context.

The infrastructure we inhabit is old and often build for different purposes. Our streets date from hundreds of years ago. Our buildings are not neutral but loaded with memories, dreams and ambitions of various era.
The HISK residents reflect upon how their work can inhabit a cityscape and the potential resonance of their artistic [removed];

New Songs for Old Cities marks the beginning of a structural collaboration between Netwerk Aalst, HISK and Stad Aalst.

Henrique Alvim Corrêa, H. G. Wells, Runo Lagomarsino and Wendy Morris

No one would have believed is an exhibition focusing on the The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells illustrated by Henrique Alvim Corêa from 1898. An invasion of Martians disrupts life on earth, they colonise the British Empire. Curators Fernanda Pitta and Laurens Dhaenens guide you through the story that criticizes colonialism with science fiction. They take you past the work of contemporary artists Runo Lagomarsino and Wendy Morris which makes you think about the relationship between exploration and invasion, science and fiction.

This exhibition is family [removed];From January 21, there will be a guide for kids available.
