Alien Realism is een installatie van Marc Oosting opgebouwd uit sculpturen, schilderijen en neon. Alien Realism ontleent zijn titel aan een project dat de kunstenaar twee jaar geleden startte. Voor Alien Realism heeft Marc Oosting een Koreaans kunstenaar gevraagd zijn marker schetsen te reproduceren in olieverf. Waar de schetsen voorheen vergeten en verspreidt in zijn atelier rondslingerden, worden zij nu onder de aandacht gebracht met de dramatische transformatie die zij ondergaan. Van de snelle marker tekeningen worden zij omgevormd naar uitvoerige, tijdrovende olieverf kopieën. Oostings handschrift wordt door de uitstekende techniek van de Koreaanse kunstenaar gereproduceerd terwijl deze tegelijkertijd wordt verhuld. Vragen met betrekking tot culturele productie, authenticiteit en anderszijn liggen aan de basis van Alien Realism.

Alien Realism is an installation by Marc Oosting comprised of sculptures, paintings and neon. Alien Realism derives its title from a project the artist started two years ago. For Alien Realism Marc Oosting commissioned a Korean artist to reproduce his own marker sketches in oil paint. Where they were disregarded and scattered around his studio before, the sketches are now brought into the center of attention by undergoing a dramatic transformation. From the quick marker drawings they are turned into elaborate, time-consuming oil painted copies. Oostings handwriting is reproduced through the superb technique of the Korean artist while being obscured at the same time. Questions concerning cultural production, authenticity and otherness lie at the core of Alien Realism.
