During the lockdown period, when we were all confined to our houses, we introduced a section with Wild Walls on our website.

We wanted to give visitors the opportunity – even if not in a physical, but in a digital form – to enjoy carefully composed presentations of works by artists that we [removed];

Now that we are ‘unlocked’ we decided to present all four Wild Walls together as our summer exhibition. What we missed the most during the lockdown was meeting each other, the conversations in the gallery with artists and visitors about art and how it relates to life. As of Wednesday July 22, you are very welcome to visit and experience the physical version of the Wild Walls, a playful group show. We will be happy to pick up the conversation [removed];

The exhibition Unlocked/Reconnected brings together a wide range of ‘houses for art’ throughout the Netherlands: museums, institutes for presentation, galleries, artists’ initiatives and corporate collections. The point of departure for Unlocked/Reconnected is the idea of solidarity, the will to reflect collectively on what home is. As an initiative Unlocked/Reconnected stems from a sense that opening up the home, in the aftermath of the lockdown, will force us to reconsider our outlook on this.

As part of Unlocked/Reconnected, we present the work Circumscribe by Chaim van Luit in the front space of the gallery. The circle he drew with stretched arm forms the basis for a thin curved glass tube with red neon light. It is an irregular circle, where the start and end points just don’t touch. This fragile line, this protective outline, reminds us that man – like a modern Icarus – may strive to touch heaven, but at the same time is inevitably bound by his earthly limitations, grand and small at the same time. How far can one go? A question that is particularly topical today.
