January 26, 2012   |  Media Arts  Jeremy Bailey Artist Talk + Performance
Thursday, January 26 at 6. 30pm

Western Front Media Arts is pleased to present a performance by Toronto based media artist Jeremy Bailey. Bailey will present an talk and performance in the Grande Luxe Hall, as part of Western Front Media Arts ongoing engagement with networked media arts practice. Bailey as a self-proclaimed “Famous New Media Artist” uses wry humor to critique new media vocabularies. Bailey's practice explores the tension between technology and the body through the cartoonish aesthetic of online culture.

Employing expert knowledge of softwear design, Bailey designs specific platforms for both online and live performative contexts, often working with consumer technology. At Western Front Bailey will perform Nam June Paik for Western Front, in which he designates himself the first practitioner of “Kinect Art”, in which he utilizes the consumer gaming system Microsoft Kinect, referencing Nam June Paik’s relationship to the invention of video art.

Western Front Media Arts is presenting Jeremy Bailey’s performance in partnership with Electric Speed at the Surrey Art Gallery, an exhibition of works commissioned for presentation on urban screens, curated by Kate Armstrong and Malcolm Levy. Bailey’s new work, Explore The Future of Creativity will be presented alongside works by John Sasaki, Will Gill and Jillian MacDonald. For more information visit [removed];
