WIELS célèbre le début de la nouvelle saison culturelle avec une exposition de l’artiste belge Ana Torfs. Sous le titre d’Echolalia, Torfs donne à voir pour la première fois à Bruxelles (où l’artiste vit) une large sélection de l’œuvre importante qu’elle déploie depuis les années nonante. Cette exposition offre une vision d’ensemble de ses œuvres des cinq dernières années, qui jusqu’ici avaient surtout été montrées à l’étranger, ou encore furent réalisées pour des contextes spécifiques — tels l’ancienne mine de charbon de Waterschei ou le port de commerce de Sharjah. Avec l’installation The Parrot & the Nightingale, a Phantasmagoria (Le perroquet & le rossignol, une fantasmagorie), WIELS présente en outre une première mondiale.
Une publication richement illustrée et publiée par WIELS en association avec Walther Koenig Books, accompagne l’exposition.
WIELS viert de start van het nieuwe culturele seizoen in september met een tentoonstelling van de Belgische kunstenares Ana Torfs. Onder de titel Echolalia toont Torfs voor het eerst in haar thuisbasis Brussel een ruime greep uit het consequente oeuvre dat ze sinds het begin van de jaren negentig ontwikkelt. De tentoonstelling biedt een exhaustief overzicht van haar werken van de afgelopen vijf jaar, die op een na nog nooit in België getoond werden of ook voor specifieke contexten werden gerealiseerd – zoals de voormalige steenkoolmijn van Waterschei of de Arabische handelshaven Sharjah. Met de nieuwe installatie The Parrot & the Nightingale, a Phantasmagoria (De papegaai & de nachtegaal, een fantasmagorie) presenteert WIELS bovendien een wereldpremière.
Een rijkelijk geïllustreerde publicatie, uitgegeven door WIELS in samenwerking met Walther Koenig Books, begeleidt de tentoonstelling.
WIELS celebrates the start of the new cultural season with an exhibition by Belgian artist Ana Torfs. Under the title Echolalia, Torfs is showing for the first time in her Brussels base a broad selection of the work that she has been developing since the early 1990s. This exhibition offers an exhaustive survey of her works from the last five years, which until now had mostly been shown abroad, or had been produced for specific contexts — such as the former coal mine in Waterschei or the trading port in Sharjah. What’s more, with the installation The Parrot & the Nightingale, a Phantasmagoria, WIELS is presenting a world première.
A richly illustrated publication, published by WIELS in association with Koenig Books, London, accompanies the exhibition.
