Albada Jelgersma Gallery is pleased to present Unseen at the gallery with photographs by Erin O’Keefe and Misha de Ridder.

In painting there are no boundaries. No limits when it comes to your imagination and the worlds you can create. Both De Ridder and O’Keefe prove in their own respective ways that the same can apply to photography.

By pushing the boundaries of photography – using their camera as a tool – they construct their own universe. O'Keefe by building installations that play with our perception of space, scale and surface and then photographing them. De Ridder by creating a tension between realism and abstraction, where form and color acquire an independent value we usually associate with paintings.

In Unseen at the gallery, their works are shown alongside the paintings in the current exhibition False Color by Marjolein Rothman. The way she paints can be compared to the developing process of analogue photography, in which parts slowly emerge and the image is frozen at a certain moment.

Seeing the work of these three artists together lets the viewer question their assumption of what a photograph or a painting actually is.
