ABA will take part in the Too Hot to Read Book Fair which will gather magazine & book publishers at FAHRBEREITSCHAFT in [removed];
Join us for a book presentation at 14:30 with our current resident Annette Behrens presenting Tolle Knolle | Quirky Carrots – a collaborative project together with Carina Hesper. The project deals with fruits and vegetables that have a different shape than the ones we usually see in the supermarket: Tolle Knolle is an ode to the quirky tomato, the joyful eggplant and the fig that is a snail. Despite all the striking and often playful shapes, it’s about a serious topic: still, about 30% of our food worldwide is wasted. Part of that is the fruit and vegetables that are sorted out and often destroyed due to unusual shapes, sizes, or colors. The book was chosen as one of the Best Dutch Book Designs of 2021.

Image by Hervé Annen
A new installation by Matheline Marmy, a former ABA resident, will be shown from 26th of July to the 5th of August at Frizz Gallery.
Matheline Marmy (*1993, Geneva) is an artist based in Geneva. She is pursuing her art practice predominantly through sculpture, working extensively with manipulable and reactive materials such as metals, liquid compounds, textile, and glass. She draws inspiration from tensions between the natural and the artificial and active exchanges between things and their environment, to create alternative scenarios.
She holds a BA from ECAL in Lausanne and a MFA from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Marmy has participated in several art residencies, including La Becque Execal (La Tour-de-Peilz), ABA Alexanderplatz Pro Helvetia (Berlin), and will be a fellow at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in fall [removed];
Her work has been exhibited in various venues in Switzerland and the Netherlands, at Le Commun (Geneva), Hamlet (Zurich), Flux Laboratory (Geneva), Art Rotterdam (Rotterdam), Lighthaus (Zurich), Windhager von Kaenel (Zurich), RIB (Rotterdam), Centre d’Art Contemporain (Geneva), Langmatt Museum (Baden) and Kunsthaus Langenthal (Langenthal).
In parallel to her intervention at ABA, she will show work at Dragonerareal in Kreuzberg, Berlin (2–7. August, 2024).

Berlin Field School in the Contemporary Arts
1 June–14 July
In its 8th year, the Berlin Field School is hosting fifteen students for six weeks in Berlin. Guided by ABA in collaboration with Judy Radul, the program offers an in-depth introduction to Berlin’s contemporary arts scene. Berlin, founded in the 12th century, has been shaped and divided by history.
Today, it’s a global cultural hub where history meets artistic innovation, with a thriving scene for visual art, theatre, music, dance, and film. The Field School immerses students in the interplay of art and its social, political, and material contexts through study, discussion, and experiencing Berlin’s vibrant urban fabric.
This year’s participants, pursuing Bachelor of Arts degrees in Film and Visual Arts, have been paying visits to galleries, museums, performances, screenings, urban sites, and studios, engaging in discussions with a range of artists.
