Femke Fredrix
Residency May – August 2023
Femke Fredrix is a Belgian born experimentalist, mainly working with sound, performance, audiovisual art and textile. Femke holds an MA in Multimedia Design (KASK, Ghent) as well as Conflict and Development (Ghent University). In her work, you will notice a sensitivity towards texture as a bearer of meaning throughout her practice and a keen interest for equally fiction as documentary.
Formerly known as Daisy Darkpark, and as a founding member of the electronic-music duo, Partners, Femke started her soloproject, Daisy Ray, as a way to dive into the field of electronic music production, songwriting and live performance. Once described as “industrial punk cabaret”, her playful experimentations with synthesizers, drummachines, harmonicas, field recordings and effect pedals all serve to activate space, turn it into a dance floor and/or expend its meaning by sharing a set of audio-performative stories. These stories are born in all places, some of them originate from the heart, others from unexpected encounters or plain observations in a city garden. Plugged into Daisy’s effect pedals – cut up, spat out, overturned or scorched – what these stories have in common is that they never come out straight.
Radna is an artist (writer, radio maker) and curator based in Amsterdam, who prefers to act from a fluid and relational position. Her work is engaged with music culture, public space, ways of gathering and conditions of (in)visibility. Radio and sonic explorations have run like a thread through her practice: in 2015 she co-founded Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio platform dedicated to the arts.
During her time in Berlin she aims to listen and to sound, to read and to write, to be in solitude and in good company, to move and to be moved.
Radna holds a BA in Journalism and was during 2016-17 in residence at the post-academic research centre Van Eyck Academie (Maastricht) where she developed her voice in writing and recording. Some of these sound pieces, text-based works and essays are published at [removed].
