Inauguration Flagpole
Off the Grid, Cas-co’s presentation platform, and 019 install a new flagpole for the playground of Brede School Stroom. This 20-metre mast will result in a permanent exhibition space in public space for a growing archive of Belgium’s largest artists’ flags. Every year, four flags of approximately 54m² are designed by artists associated with the Leuven scene or Cas-community. The project thus relates to the rapidly changing environment of the Vaartkom with all its industrial heritage and new construction projects.
You are cordially invited this Saturday, 4 pm, at Stroom Leuven for the official inauguration. See you there!
Flag #1: Every Island
On February 25 at 4 pm, we will festively inaugurate the flagpole and hoist the first flag made by Every Island. This artist collective is currently finalizing their three-months residency at Off the Grid. The group of international scenographers conducted research into themes such as care and maintenance. After the inauguration, we head to Cas-co for the finissage of Every Island’s exhibition ‘THE BODY IS T̲H̲E̲ ̲B̲U̲I̲L̲D̲I̲N̲G̲ ̲I̲S̲ ̲T̲H̲E̲ ̲B̲O̲D̲Y̲‘ with cake and drinks, welcome!
About Every Island
Every Island is a design collective based in Brussels, investigating performativity in space through ephemeral architectures and installations.
Using ambiguity as a design tool, we think of space as scenography for transitions, of roles, of stages and of meanings. Within each project, materiality is conceived as a reminiscence of hidden memories, images, sensations. Every Island was formed in early 2021 by Alessandro Cugola (Verona, 1993), Caterina Malavolti (Milan, 1992), Damir Draganić (Sarajevo, 1991), Juliane Seehawer (Berlin, 1989), Martina Genovesi (Milan, 1991).
During the time given by a residency at Cas-co, Every Island approached maintenance in the space as a repetitive act. Within the foolishness of such act, an image that does not truly exist is portrayed and performed. In this process, we might experience apathy but also intimacy, and its link to the human body. Within the invisible doing, an almost intangible but mutual exchange is set.
