OVERTOON NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2021 | ||
After a long quest through the intricate structures of Brussels real estate, Overtoon is ready for a new chapter. Together with other artist-run organisations such as Jubilee and several individual artists, we re-located our studios to Boulevard Pachecolaan 34, only a short walk away from Brussel Central Station. We couldn't be more pleased to welcome Farida Amadou as the first artist to work from one of our new studios during her research residency.
Inspired by the sounds and passing images she has captured through the windows of moving trains, Farida is working on a twofold audio-visual installation, soon to be part of Europalia Arts Festival. Using two plate-reverbs and long strings, Amadou creates a metal sound sculpture that invites the audience to touch, play and improvise. The vibrations of the plates interact with recordings Farida made of her collaborations with musicians of all walks of life. Making up for last year's cancellation due to the second Belgian lockdown, KIKK festival invited several of our former residents to present their work throughout the city of Namur. Aside from Dominik 't Jolle, VOID and Floris Vanhoof, you can equally discover works by Mariska de Groot and Amélie Laurence Fortin, supported by our long-time partner Werktank.
KIKK Festival 2021, Namur, Belgium Through a selection of artists, notably inspired by the works of Verne and Leroux, but also from the hand of Balzac, Rimbaud or Cocteau, “Le Voile du Palais” proposes to explore the voice as a bodily technology. Starting from the artificiality that vocalization already embodies, the recording and amplification of the voice open the way to its manipulation and deconstruction. With works by our 2020 production residents VOID and affiliated artist Gert Aertsen.
