Workshop on Online Performance OPEN LECTURES Saturday 20 March 2021 at 13[removed] Tuesday 23 March 2021 at 13:15-14:30 images: Leena Kela and Tero Nauha Because of the pandemic, performance art has moved predominantly online. For artists, this means an increasing need to update skills related to online performances. What is particular in an online performance and what should be taken into account while making one? What kind of performances work in a networked setting? What is a video performance and what is an online performance? The workshop focusing on online performance is a collaboration between MUU and Theatre Academy. It’s part of the program of the Month of Performance that will be realized both in MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre in Cable Factory and online. The facilitator of the workshop is a producer, live art maker and doctoral researcher Samee Haapa with lectures also from professor Tero Nauha and artist Leena Kela. Free online lectures in English for professional artists by Leena Kela and Tero Nauha will be organised in Zoom. Registration for the lectures HERE Sorry, the Line Is Breaking Up – Perspectives on Online Performances In the lecture we will discuss what the shift from physical to digital mean in performance art and how it affects our relation to the audience. What are the pros and cons in this transition? What to take into account when planning online performances? Leena Kela is a performance artist, artistic director of the New Performance Turku Festival, a director of the Saari Residence and doctoral candidate at the University of the Arts Helsinki. In her artistic works and research she explores dialogue between corporeality and materiality in performance art. Performance Through the Lens In this presentation on performance art and the lens, my aim is not to give an extensive overview, but rather focus on certain aspects on the relationship between the camera-apparatus, corporeality and performance; on the relationship between activities and the apparatus. How to perform for and with the camera? What are these activities of inscribing, describing, transforming, augmenting, forcing and making visible that we call performance? Dr. Tero Nauha is a professor in Live Art and Performance Studies (LAPS), Uniarts Helsinki and a performance artist. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Academy of Finland funded postdoctoral research project ‘How To Do Things With Performance?’, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies in [removed]; He defended his doctoral research at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts in Helsinki in January 2016. Tero Nauha’s performance art projects have been presented at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Theatrediscounter in Berlin, CSW Kronika in Bytom, Poland, Performance Matters in London, and at the New Performance Festival in Turku, among other venues.
