In 2021 voorzien we een nieuwe editie van de AAIR ontwikkelingsresidentie voor lokale kunstenaars. We verwelkomen nu aanvragen voor een residentie van vijf maanden tussen april 2021 en januari 2022. Deze oproep is gericht aan kunstenaars die in Antwerpen gevestigd zijn. Er wordt niet gekeken naar leeftijd en we zijn multidisciplinair. We bieden plaats aan maximum zes kunstenaars.
Elke resident krijgt financiële, praktische en inhoudelijke ondersteuning om zijn of haar praktijk of projecten te ontwikkelen in een open omgeving die kritische dialoog en artistieke experimenten aanmoedigt. Het programma omvat onder andere atelierbezoeken en collectieve ontmoetingen met genodigde kunstenaars, die indien nodig online zullen plaatsvinden.
Naast een ontwikkelingsprogramma voor lokale kunstenaars, organiseert AAIR ook internationale uitwisselingen met partnerresidenties over de hele wereld. Het residentiegebouw, gelegen achter de Zoo en het Centraal Station van Antwerpen, is tegelijk werkplaats en ontmoetingsplaats, en host af en toe ook presentaties. Het aangrenzende voormalige klooster herbergt de ateliers en de tuin van de residentie, die we delen met onze partner Kunsthal Extra City.

We luiden het nieuwe jaar in met Showing Presence, een tentoonstelling van Wim Catrysse bij AAIR die terugblikt op zijn residentie in Ramallah (22/1–31/1), en Who is the Other?, een groeps-tentoonstelling geïnitieerd door Smila Zinecker en Emma Johnson bij RAAT (09/1-24/1).
In de eerste helft van 2021 kijken we ernaar uit om de volgende kunstenaars in residentie te verwelkomen: Pierre-Antoine Vettorello, Daniel Cabral, Irina Jasnowski Pascual, Inas Halabi, Jumana Emil Abboud, Ilan Manouach en Theresa Büchner.

| In 2021, AAIR will continue to provide space and support to emerging artists in Antwerp. We are now welcoming applications for a new five-month development residency taking place between April 2021 and January 2022. This opportunity is open to Antwerp-based artists of any age, and active in any medium. We can accommodate up to six [removed];
Each resident will be provided with financial, practical and curatorial support to develop their practice and projects in an open environment that encourages critical dialogue and artistic experimentation. The program will include studio visits and collective discussions with visiting artists, which may be adapted to the digital environment if needed.
In addition to a development program for local artists, AAIR also organizes international exchanges with partner residencies around the world. Located behind the Antwerp Zoo and Central station, the residency building is at once a workplace and a meeting place, and also occasionally hosts [removed];The former monastery adjacent to it houses the residency studios and garden, which we share with our partner Kunsthal Extra City.
