It is with great pleasure that we announce the recipients of THE 2020 OPEN CALL!

Following individual reading sessions and a day-long, collective deliberation, the jury – consisting of artist Sirah Foighel Brutmann, curator Vincent van Velsen and team members Andrea Cinel and Niels Van Tomme – has decided to honour the following artists and works:

• Chloë Delanghe – Hexham Heads

• Isabelle Nouzha –  Progress and Persecution (working title)

• Julie Pfleiderer – Das Retirée or the last utopian house of my father

• Margaux Dauby – The Lookout

• Shelbatra Jashari – “shemortal” (La dolce morte) (working title)

In a story about traditional medicine, spirituality, and decolonisation, BAYINDO (2020) takes us to Kinshasa in the DR Congo.

The film dives into the heart of the animist community “Kintuadi Tuka Kongo”, a group that attempts to restore the customs and the ancestral faiths destroyed by the arrival of the missionaries and colonisers.

Dans un récit sur la médecine traditionnelle, la spiritualité et la décolonisation, BAYINDO (2020) nous emmène à Kinshasa en République démocratique du Congo.

Le film plonge au cœur de la communauté animiste “Kintuadi Tuka Kongo”, un groupe qui tente de restaurer les coutumes et les croyances ancestrales détruites par l’arrivée des missionnaires et des colonisateurs.

Na individuele leessessies en een dag lang collectief overleg heeft de jury – bestaande uit kunstenaar Sirah Foighel Brutmann, curator Vincent van Velsen en -teamleden Andrea Cinel en Niels Van Tomme – besloten om de volgende kunstenaars en werken te eren:
