MONTEZ PRESS IN APRIL

New release:
Oliver Reed by Hannah Regel

Montez Press is extremely excited to announce the release of Oliver Reed by Hannah Regel, available on our website for pre-order now and shipping May 1st.

“Regel doesn’t really sound like anyone. Oliver Reed introduces a poetic sensibility that seems as at odds with convention as it is equal to the moment: fully formed, virtuosic, kind of lethal. These are pitiless, discomforting poems that explore our own creatureliness with a deadly curiosity. Each is a transformation: the actor becomes a strange muse and guiding presence, to ‘smoulder a mobile furnace’; the horse, another of the book’s recurring figures, becomes more than an emblem of eros, labour and suffering; the young girl’s bratty insolence turns defiant and stricken. The voice wills these changes into being even as she ‘wills herself barren’. As much as they trouble and seduce, the poems are also watchful, vigilant – they seem to offer a means of protection. Oliver Reed is an astonishing, masterful first [removed]#8221; – Sam Riviere, author of 81 Austerities

Montez Press Radio Marathon in April

Normally, we operate out of 46 Canal Street where broadcasts are free and open to the public, but from 20th – 28th of April we’ll be broadcasting out of our apartments, airing material that artists, musicians, and organizations have been recording in their own homes across the world. We’ve been realizing just how valuable and necessary this medium is, when the arts and literary community can’t gather together in physical space. Applause and thanks to everyone who put together a radio segment during these strange times:

In response to the unprecedented financial crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic we want to support artists and writers, particularly those who have lost income, or who perhaps never had any to begin with. We are offering short term financial support to enable the development of a new written piece of work, which should be between 500 and 1000 words in length (this is a guide – length dependent on the applicant & style of work).

We are able to offer 10 grants. Each recipient of the grant will receive 500 euros and editorial support during the development of the piece.

Deadline for applications is midnight tonight!

Applicants to be notified by: May 1st

Good luck!
