Last week to visit the exhibition of
until Saturday 4th of April 2015
A galvanised tubular system organises and unifies c-o-m-p-o-s-i-t-e’s gallery space, guiding the visitor through an active exploration of its multiplying corners and rooms. Purpose-built benches mirror and prolong some of the existing architectural data, underlining its social function. Anna Barham’s exhibitions often feature seats, benches, and platforms; to make space for the audience and accommodate the demands of the experiences she proposes. Through carefully calculated proportions, Barham’s structures precisely regulate the relationships between the bodies and devices inhabiting them, emphasising the viewer’s collaborative participation in the work. However this time, rather than autonomously erect, her interventions are reaching to touch their surroundings: the benches, as if camouflaged, match the existing seating and the metal structure firmly plants its flanges and clamps into the architecture of c-o-m-p-o-s-i-t-e.
