Organized by Artists’ Association MUU, the theme of the event is performance documentation and its presentation. The theme is examined primarily through the portfolios of five different performance artist, but other methods of using digital collections as a distribution channel for performance art are also discussed.
Produced at a MUU workshop, performance portfolios are a new way to present the work of performance artists. Performance Art Bank is a digital database of new performance works. Performance Voyage is an international series of video performances currently on world tour; the series is presented at Kiasma Theatre in the afternoon. All the above initiatives represent new ways for presenting the work of performance artists. The event at Kiasma Theatre also includes the presentation of an open call for submissions to the 2014 Performance Voyage video collection. The event is concluded with a discussion and commentaries by Annette Arlander, PhD (Theatre), Leevi Haapala, curator, and Annika Tudeer, artistic director of the Oblivia Ensemble.
PERFORMANCE PORTFOLIO 2013 is a series of five portfolios presenting performance documentations. Artists are Anja Helminen, Helinä Hukkataival, Varpu Lukka, Hannele Romppanen and Taina Valkonen. In addition to showcasing each artist’s work, the bilingual (Finnish, English) DVDs also contain video interviews with the artists. Image and text files are provided in the DVD-ROM folder on the disks. Production by Artists’ Association MUU. In co-operation with: Stadin ammattiopisto’s Audiovisual Communication Department. Supported by the Arts Council of Finland.
PERFORMANCE ART BANK is a database which presents topical Finnish performance and live art at its website [removed] and in the form of a catalog. In the database you can view recent works, which can also be ordered as performances. Performances older than two years can be found in the archive. The database is implemented jointly by MUU and the Regional Arts Council of South-West Finland.
PERFORMANCE VOYAGE 3 presents video performances by 12 artists and collectives. The compilation was selected from among work submitted in response to an open international call for artists. The themes of body and sound offered a variety of possibilities for the artists: in the works, sound is is variously produced by a landscape or extends from sound created by speech and action to composed music. Artists are Annette Arlander (Finland), Filippo Berta (Italy), Trine Hylander Friis (Norway), Essi Kausalainen (Finland), Mikey McParlane & Michael Mallis (USA), Maria Nikiforaki (Greece), Anna Nykyri (Finland), Andreas Pashias (Cyprus), Dana Sederowsky (Sweden), Surya Tüchler (Germany), Tracy Valcarcel (Canada) ja Eero Yli-Vakkuri (Finland). The members of the jury were artist Helinä Hukkataival, director Timo Soppela (Artists’ Association MUU) and exhibition coordinator Marketta Tuomainen (Artists’ Association of Finland).
