Tomorrow, join us for a special screening and talk to celebrate the launch of Fantasy, the first monograph dedicated to the work of French artist Julie Béna. 

Hosted at The ICA, Cinema 2 on Wednesday, 5th November from 6[removed];

Featuring contributions by Michal Novotný, Silvia Franceschini, Eva Barois de Caevel, Laura Herman, Rose English, and Nicoletta Lambertucci, the book explores over twenty years of Béna’s artistic practice, from early site-specific performances and post-conceptual gestures, to the development of theatrical alter egos through narrative sculptures, subversive performative acts, and moving-image works.

This event will feature an exclusive screening of Béna’s film STRAKATI (2022, 27 min.), followed by an in-conversation between Nicoletta Lambertucci and the artist.
 
Tickets are £10, or £25 with a discounted copy of the book when purchased in advance.

Inside Julie Béna’s Fantasy: Death Too Is In The Egg by Nicoletta Lambertucci 

‘The word “Strakati” doesn’t have a widely recognised translation in English, but in Czech it describes something that has irregular patches of colour, creating a speckled appearance. The protagonist is a surreal, naughty, unpredictable, luring character named Strakati, who journeys through what could be her [removed]#8217; 

To mirror Béna’s multiplicity, Fantasy is available in both French and English versions. Both copies are available for preorder, alongside Béna’s previous title, It Needed to be Tender and to be Whipped (2017).
