June Interjection: ♥ Atmospheric Chemistry ♥ – Ella Fleck

Ella Fleck is a London based artist and writer. She works across online sleuthing, scent and chemo-signaling, audio, architecture and text to create large scale installations that look at hetero-male fantasies, biochemistry, technology and somatic infrastructures. Her work has been exhibited in London, New York, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Stockholm [removed];

Her first solo exhibition, “Spray” at London gallery Season 4 Episode 6, revolved around a seven-month research project for which she developed the fictional character ‘Jonathan Michaels’ in a variety of online forums exploring a community of heterosexual men experimenting with the use of pheromones, neuro-linguistic programming, and other ‘subliminal’ manipulation techniques in attempts to ‘acquire’ sex and relationships from women. Fleck used her experiences as an interloper in these groups to produce a body of work involving an audio installation, a ducting pipe and fan network emitting pheromone fog in the gallery and a live stream to the Discord server’s general chat. A book of the same title will be published this summer.
